CeDRI researchers Inês Sena and João Mendes participated in the 26th International Conference on Computational Science and Its Applications (ICCSA 2026), held from June 30 to July 3 at the University of Minho, in Braga, Portugal. In addition to organizing the Computational and Applied Statistics for Data & AI (CAS 2026) workshop, both researchers served as session chairs and presented their research papers, further strengthening CeDRI's presence at one of the leading international conferences in Computational Science.

On June 26 2026, CeDRI researcher Leonardo Mendonça presented the latest results of the IA-SMAB-PGNP project at the CIGR-EURAGENG World Congress in Turin, Italy. Developed through a partnership between CeDRI and Data CoLAB, the project aims to create a digital platform for analyzing and assessing vegetation indices and fire occurence data in common lands within the Peneda-Gerês and Montesinho Natural Parks. By providing faster and more efficient data analysis, the platform supports better land management, informed decision-making, and contributes to the preservation and sustainability of these valuable ecosystems

News | CeDRI EDI+ Impact Research Award 2026, presented during SASYR.
CeDRI is also delighted to announce that its researcher, Ângela Ferreira, has been awarded the CeDRI EDI+ Impact Research Award 2026, presented during SASYR, for the paper "Accessible Power for Medical Equipment in Remote Healthcare: A Solution for Single-Phase Power Generation Using Three-Phase Induction Machines". The award recognises the outstanding contribution of this research to promoting equality, inclusion and technological accessibility in healthcare. The paper was co-authored by Bruno Romeiro (CeDRI, SusTEC, IPB; LINMET, UTFPR), Carlos Oliveira (LINMET, UTFPR), Cicero Hildenberg (LINMET, UTFPR) and Francisco Filho (LINMET, UTFPR). Now in its second edition, the CeDRI EDI+ Impact Research Award recognises research that combines scientific excellence with a meaningful societal impact, reinforcing CeDRI's commitment to equity, inclusion, civic responsibility, and the role of science and technology in building a fairer and more inclusive society.

News | 3rd Edition of the BIP on the Internet of Things brings together participants from four countries in Bragança.
3rd Edition of the BIP on the Internet of Things brings together participants from four countries in Bragança Between 15 and 19 June 2026, the 3rd edition of the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) on the Internet of Things (IoT) took place at the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança. This international initiative brought together 26 students and 6 lecturers from higher education institutions in Portugal, Spain, Germany and Poland. The programme combined an online phase, carried out over the preceding weeks, with a week of face-to-face sessions dedicated to practical activities, collaborative work and the sharing of knowledge amongst participants of different nationalities and academic backgrounds. During the face-to-face component, the students took part in laboratory activities related to IoT technologies, developed projects in international teams and presented the results obtained throughout the week. The programme also included a range of cultural and social activities, enabling participants to get to know the city of Bragança and its historical and cultural heritage better. Highlights of the activities included a visit to Bragança Castle, the Military Museum, the Iberian Museum of Masks and Costumes, and a guided tour of the city’s historic centre. The industry engagement component was complemented by a technical visit to FORVIA, giving participants an insight into the industrial context and the technological challenges associated with the automotive sector. This third edition provided yet another opportunity to promote international collaboration, the exchange of experiences and the development of technical and intercultural skills within an academic and multicultural environment.

José Gonçalves and Laiany Suganuma participated in the Robotic Day Prague 2026 edition, which is one of the largest international robotics competitions and exhibitions in Central Europe. This event is organized annually by the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University alongside the Robonika association, having as primary goal to present, celebrate, and promote robotics across all age groups. They competed in the Line Follower competition, being one of the main categories of the event, having won second and third places prizes.
