The CeDRI Industry Day will take place on 1 October 2026 in the Eng. Alcínio Miguel Auditorium, starting at 2.00 pm. The event is designed to bring together the research carried out at the Centre for Research in Digitalisation and Intelligent Robotics (CeDRI) and the region’s business community. Over the course of an afternoon, researchers and industry partners will come together to discuss real research and development needs, funding opportunities and models of collaboration.

On 01 October 2026, CeDRI brings together researchers, companies, public institutions and organisations to exchange ideas, explore collaboration opportunities and discover pathways to regional, national and European funding. The afternoon will feature discussions on innovation and funding, with the participation of ANI and CCDR-N, successful CeDRI–industry collaborations, and results from joint R&D projects — ending with a visit to CeDRI’s facilities. 📅 01 October 2026 · 📍 Auditório Eng. Júlio Castro Lopes, PhD student and researcher at the Research Centre in Digitalization and Intelligent Robotics (CeDRI), was awarded a Best Poster Award at the Image Analysis and Data Fusion (IADF) Summer School, an international advanced training event focused on image analysis, data fusion, and Earth Observation. From more than 300 applicants, around 70 participants were selected to attend the Summer School, bringing together PhD students and early-career researchers for an intensive programme led by experts in the application of Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence to Earth Observation. As part of the programme, Júlio Castro Lopes presented his ongoing PhD research during a poster session, providing an opportunity to discuss the work with Summer School lecturers and experts and to explore new directions for its further development. His contribution was recognised by the jury with a Best Poster Award, sponsored by the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) IDEA Program. The award acknowledges the scientific quality and relevance of the research and encourages its continued development, including the exploration of emerging approaches such as Foundation Models for Earth Observation. The distinction also contributes to the international visibility of the doctoral research carried out at UPB and CeDRI in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, and Earth Observation.

CeDRI is taking part in the ‘Casas Em Movimento’ project, which was featured in "Expresso" in an article dedicated to the evolution of "Casas Em Movimento" technology and the next steps in our journey. The project is also currently in the construction phase of a new "Casa Em Movimento" in Viana do Castelo; in addition to the creation of a new "Casa Em Movimento" in Benfica to serve the community and support electric mobility. The next step is to build two-storey or multi-storey buildings, taking the "Casas Em Movimento" technology to an even greater scale. CeDRI participated in the Di.Hor Project consortium meeting, a European project that promotes the appropriate, safe and ethical implementation of digital technologies, whose third transnational meeting took place in Paris (FR) on 10 and 11 September 2026. The main topics discussed were: defining the testing phase for the online course; finalising the list of AI-based teaching tools; defining teachers’ tasks in using AI-based teaching tools; and presenting the dissemination activities. CeDRI is participating in the stand of the CRUSOE network at ETC 2026 conference, taking place in Porto from September 9–11, 2026.

Rui Pedro Lopes, researcher at the Research Centre in Digitalization and Intelligent Robotics (CeDRI) and professor at the Bragança Polytechnic University (UPB), participated in the VI Meeting of Good Educational Practices (VI Encontro de Boas Práticas Educativas), held on 4–5 September 2026 at the Municipal Theatre of Bragança, under the theme "Time(s) and Space(s) for Learning." His participation included a contribution to the round table "Building Knowledge: Moments and Places that Inspire Learning" and the delivery of the workshop "Artificial Intelligence in the Classroom: Practical and Ethical Tools," addressing the potential, practical applications, and ethical challenges of Artificial Intelligence in educational contexts. This participation reflects CeDRI’s commitment to knowledge transfer and to strengthening the connection between research, technological innovation, and educational practice, promoting the responsible and critical integration of emerging digital technologies in teaching and learning.

CeDRI is pleased to share that the project "A digitalização como ferramenta para melhorar a sustentabilidade do processo de recolha seletiva", developed by our researcher Adriano Silva, Thadeu Brito, and Profs. Ana I. Pereira and José Lima, has been featured by Ponto Verde Lab. The project presents an intelligent waste collection monitoring system based on ultrasonic sensors, LoRaWAN communication, and optimization algorithms to support more efficient and sustainable collection operations. Developed in collaboration with Resíduos do Nordeste and supported by Sociedade Ponto Verde, the work demonstrates how digital technologies can contribute to improving waste management and advancing the circular economy.
