Between October 21-23, CeDRI researcher Rebeca B. Kalbermatter participated in the IEEE International Conference on E-health Networking, Applications and Services (IEEE HealthCom 2025). The conference took place at Khalifa University, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where she presented the work “Markov Transition Field for Fall Detection using Time-Series Data”, resulting from collaborative research with Prof. Moustafa Fayad (UMLP, France). She also served as chair of the workshop session on Advanced AI for Robust Elderly Fall Detection (AI-EFD).

CeDR is pleased to announce that its researchers received two awards at the Conference on Technological Ecosystems for Multiculturalism (TEEM 2025), held on 24 October 2025 in Salamanca. The awards for best article were given in two categories, namely: Track - Identity and Education. Identity Construction Processes in Hyperconnected and Natural Ecosystems, with the article: "Designing Smart Spaces: A Web-Based Simulation Platform with AI for Conflict Resolution. Raul Batista, Manuel Duarte, Pedro Filipe Oliveira, and Paulo Matos." Track - Laboratories in STEAM Education, with the article: ‘A Virtualisation Server to Support the Execution of Learning System Security Laboratory Scenarios. Nicodemo Vaz, Pedro Filipe Oliveira, and Paulo Matos.’ Congratulations to the members of CeDRI for their work.

From October 20 to 24, Ana I. Pereira, Inês Sena, João Mendes, and José Lima were at North West University (NWU) in Potchefstroom, South Africa, to lead a training week under the topic "Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Educational Practices (OEP) with Artificial Intelligence (AI)" regarding the ongoing project Ted-SOEP. The overall scope of the project is to foster collaboration between South African and European HEIs to enable the exchange and transfer of expertise, best practices, and know-how in integrating self-directed open educational practices (OEPs) and open educational resources (OERs) into STEM teacher education.

We are pleased to announce that on 26/09/2025, researcher Adriano Silva defended his doctoral thesis entitled ‘Sustainable management of municipal solid waste through waste collection optimisation and plastic upcycling’ presented in the Doctoral Programme in Chemical and Biological Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto and supervised by Prof. Helder Gomes, Prof. Ana Pereira, and Prof. Adrián Silva. CeDRI congratulates the new doctor!

We are pleased to announce that on 25/09/2025, the researcher Lucas Sakurada carried out his doctoral defence with the title "An Industrial Agent-Based Approach to Designing Asset Administration Shells Type 3" at the University of Salamanca, being approved with the classification of Sobresaliente "cum laude". CeDRI congratulates the new PhD!

On 11 September, CeDRI researcher Leonardo Mendonça participated in the 15th IFAC Workshop on Intelligent Manufacturing Systems (IMS) in Koszalin, Poland, where he presented his work ‘Monitoring and Forecasting Maintenance Operations for Aircraft Engine Repair,’ sharing the results developed within the scope of the PRODUTECH R3 project.

"Fronteiras da Inovação em Agroecossistemas Sustentáveis e Resilientes" foi o tema da sessão paralela realizada no âmbito do evento Ciência 2025, que decorreu a 11 de julho de 2025, em Lisboa. Esta sessão, promovida pelo SusTEC, e onde CeDRI esteve representado pelo Prof. João Paulo Coelho, teve como foco os avanços científicos e tecnológicos em curso no domínio agroalimentar, com particular ênfase nos desafios inerentes à digitalização e otimização dos respetivos sistemas e processos produtivos. "Frontiers of Innovation in Sustainable and Resilient Agroecosystems" was the theme of the parallel session held as part of the Science 2025 event, which took place on 11 July 2025 in Lisbon. This session, promoted by SusTEC and where CeDRI was represented by Prof. João Paulo Coelho, focused on the scientific and technological advances underway in the agri-food sector, with particular emphasis on the challenges inherent in digitising and optimising the respective production systems and processes.
