On Friday, January 16th, 2026, researcher João Braun recorded an interview at the Rádio Observador studio in Alvalade for the Mentes Brilhantes program, part of the Aula Prática series, with researcher Henrique Veiga-Fernandes. Opportunities, challenges, and difficulties in scientific research were discussed, where João Braun shared the current projects he is working on, including Fructhor AI. The interview will be available as a podcast and broadcast on Rádio Observador in February.

On December 5, 2025, CeDRI researcher João Mendes participated in the REGIONAL RURAL program, the only radio program in Portugal that deals with issues related to the rural world on a daily basis, discussing the role of AI in the challenges of agriculture. The interview was prompted by the publication of an article in AJAP's Jovens Agricultores magazine.

On December 4, 2025, CeDRI, through its researchers, visited the João Correia de Araújo School in Régua to demonstrate its research.

The CeDRI team is pleased to congratulate researcher Joana Fernandes on the defense of her doctoral thesis “Support System For the Diagnosis of Vocal Pathologies” which took place on November 20, 2025, at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP).

The Alcino Lavrador Recognition Award ceremony took place at Altice Labs in Aveiro on November 17. The award is given to final-year Bachelor's or Master's students in the fields of Information, Communication, and Electronic Technologies (TICE) or Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). In the 2025 edition, at IPB, the award was given to Tiago Pereira Ribeiro, a student in the Master's program in Computer Science at ESTiG. Under the co-supervision of professors Luisa Jorge and João Paulo Coelho, Tiago developed a dissertation entitled "Smart Crosswalks in Smart Cities - Computational Management including Visible Light Communication" and was a scientific research fellow at CeDRI in 2022 and 2023.

Between October 21-23, CeDRI researcher Rebeca B. Kalbermatter participated in the IEEE International Conference on E-health Networking, Applications and Services (IEEE HealthCom 2025). The conference took place at Khalifa University, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where she presented the work “Markov Transition Field for Fall Detection using Time-Series Data”, resulting from collaborative research with Prof. Moustafa Fayad (UMLP, France). She also served as chair of the workshop session on Advanced AI for Robust Elderly Fall Detection (AI-EFD).

On October 29, 2025, CeDRI researcher Inês Sena participated in the European Week for Safety and Health at Work, organized by the National Authority for Workplace Accidents.

CeDR is pleased to announce that its researchers received two awards at the Conference on Technological Ecosystems for Multiculturalism (TEEM 2025), held on 24 October 2025 in Salamanca. The awards for best article were given in two categories, namely: Track - Identity and Education. Identity Construction Processes in Hyperconnected and Natural Ecosystems, with the article: "Designing Smart Spaces: A Web-Based Simulation Platform with AI for Conflict Resolution. Raul Batista, Manuel Duarte, Pedro Filipe Oliveira, and Paulo Matos." Track - Laboratories in STEAM Education, with the article: ‘A Virtualisation Server to Support the Execution of Learning System Security Laboratory Scenarios. Nicodemo Vaz, Pedro Filipe Oliveira, and Paulo Matos.’ Congratulations to the members of CeDRI for their work.

From October 20 to 24, Ana I. Pereira, Inês Sena, João Mendes, and José Lima were at North West University (NWU) in Potchefstroom, South Africa, to lead a training week under the topic "Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Educational Practices (OEP) with Artificial Intelligence (AI)" regarding the ongoing project Ted-SOEP. The overall scope of the project is to foster collaboration between South African and European HEIs to enable the exchange and transfer of expertise, best practices, and know-how in integrating self-directed open educational practices (OEPs) and open educational resources (OERs) into STEM teacher education.
