The DISRUPTIVE project, integrated in its training activities, organizes the course: "Introduction to mobile robotics on ROS". In this course, concepts about the Robot Operating System (ROS) and its application in the development of simulations focused on mobile robotics will be introduced.

The course has a duration of 8 hours divided in two online units with four hours each, being the first held on May 20th 2021 at 9 AM [Lisbon-PT] where there will be an introduction presentation to the basic concepts of ROS and mobile robotics and the second on May 21st 2021 at 9 AM [Lisbon-PT]) where practical examples of mobile robotics will be developed through a simulation environment.

The videoconference will be held via Zoom Meeting. Instructors include: Luis Piardi, Alexandre Júnior, Heitor Assumpção and Paulo Leitão.

Training Program:

   20/05/2021

- Robotics Fundamentals and Introduction to ROS: Concept of mobile robotics, different classes of mobile robots and their applications, conceptualization and structure of ROS, and simulators for mobile robotics in ROS;

- Installation of ROS Kinetic Kame on a virtual machine;

   21/05/2021

- Practical work in mobile robotics simulation: concepts of controlling a mobile robot in a simulation environment through the concepts of ROS presented and the Python language.
