The Mountain Research Center (CIMO) and the Research Center in Digitalization and Intelligent Robotics (CeDRI), based at the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, obtain the highest ranking among the Associated Laboratory. The submitted application obtained a classification of 100%, thus guaranteeing the Statute of Associated Laboratory and Additional Funding for a period of 10 years.
The Associated Laboratory for Sustainability and Technology in Inland Regions (SusTEC) intends to approach in a holistic, transversal and multidisciplinary way, and in total alignment with the national and European research and innovation policies and agendas, the societal challenges that promote sustainable development inland regions. LA is organized into 3 thematic lines: Natural Resources, Agriculture and Climate Change; Food and bio-based solutions; and Innovative and Technology-Based SMEs. The three lines will contribute to: (i) improve agricultural systems and the management of natural resources in an integrated view with climate change issues; (ii) increasing interest in the bio-based economy, namely contributing to the consolidation of a zero waste economy and the creation of new value chains; and (iii) promoting the modernization of the industrial sector, applying clean and emerging digital technologies and green and sustainable processes, in alignment with the digital transformation and circular economy.
SusTEC is composed of 96 researchers, which will be reinforced with the hiring of new career researchers, resulting in a multidisciplinary team that will benefit from the complementarity and synergy existing between CIMO and CeDRI researchers in the planned transdisciplinary areas.
